Engineering as a service is a flat monthly subscription for software development. Instead of hiring, you send requests to a shared board and a team of senior engineers ships each one as a reviewed pull request, merged and deployed. Playhype Engineering runs this model from $5,000 a month: one active request at a time, an unlimited backlog, and you can pause or cancel whenever you want.
How the model works
- You subscribe to a flat monthly plan. No hourly billing, no statements of work.
- You add requests to a shared board (Trello, Linear, Notion, wherever you already work) in plain language.
- An engineer from the team takes one request at a time, builds it with AI speeding up the boilerplate, and opens a pull request.
- Every change passes automated checks and a senior engineer's review, then it is merged and deployed to your own repo and cloud.
What it includes, and what it does not
It covers execution and output: features, integrations, fixes, migrations, refactors. It does not include product strategy, roadmap decisions or standing team meetings. You bring the roadmap and the calls; Playhype Engineering ships the reviewed code. That narrower scope is why it costs a fraction of a full-time hire.
Who it is for
Product and engineering teams with more backlog than people, who want senior output without adding headcount, a recruiter, or a contractor to manage. It is a distinct product from Playhype's marketing software: same team, different service.
Frequently asked questions
Is it a subscription or a project?
A subscription. You pay a flat monthly rate, get continuous engineering capacity, and pause or cancel anytime with no notice period.
How is it different from hiring a developer?
No sourcing, interviews, salary, benefits, equity or ramp-up. You get senior output in days, from a team, so work does not stall when one person is out. It costs about half to a third of a senior hire.
Do I own the code?
Yes. Everything is built in your own repo and cloud accounts. An active subscription is not required to keep anything that ships.
